North Carolina Artist Jason Craighead Donates "Structure 17" to Works of Heart Auction Against AIDS

Raleigh, NC, September 21, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Raleigh-based abstract expressionist Jason Craighead has donated a new painting entitled “Structure 17” to Works of Heart, the Triangle area’s art auction against aids, which will held Saturday, October 13 at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. He presented the 40” x 50” painting (mixed media on canvas) to the auction’s organizers during the official “Kick Off Party for Artists and Sponsors” held September 9 at Enoteca Vin on Glenwood South.

"Raising money for the Carolina Alliance of AIDS Services is a very worthy cause and the Works of Heart event is so well done,” he said recently. “The caliber of the art combined with the presentation of the auction is just incredible. Works of Heart truly is a premiere setting, which is why they’re able to raise so much money every year. I continue to be very proud to be associated with this event.”

This is the seventh year Craighead has donated his work to Works of Heart. In 2004, he was the auction’s Signature Artist with "Conversation #7." “Structure 17” represents the most recent direction in the artist’s evolution.

“My current work includes ideas on construction, deconstruction, revitalization, and the energies produced in an urban environment,” he said. “My works are not depictions of reality, but responses to the visual treat that is everyday city life within the structure and chaos that surrounds us. There is beauty to be found in the grit if we choose to be observant.”

“Structure 17” will also be featured on the cover of Metro Magazine’s October “social calendar” section.

Now in its 17th year, Works of Heart is the region’s premiere charity auction. Since its inception in 1991, nearly 2500 pieces of artwork have passed through Works of Heart generating almost $600,000 in sales.

With the additional support of financial sponsors, 100 percent of the proceeds from the auction benefit The Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina (AAS-C) and its programs for direct care, housing, education, prevention, and faith ministries. The AAS-C serves Wake, Durham, and Orange counties and reports 3500 individuals and their families living with HIV/AIDS. AAS-C’s client roster includes over 1200 of these people.
