2013 mHealth Summit Features Mobile App to Help Diagnose Disease
VisualDx Empowers and Educates Patients
Rochester, NY, December 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Consumers and healthcare professionals at the 2013 mHealth Summit will have the opportunity to see firsthand how quickly and accurately VisualDx, a mobile app and online resource, can help diagnose disease and increase patients’ understanding of their diagnoses.
More than half of the nation’s medical schools use VisualDx to help educate the next generation of physicians. More than 1,500 hospitals and large clinics, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, rely on VisualDx to avoid misdiagnoses – which are the most common and costly of medical errors.
VisualDx will be among the mHealth innovations featured at the summit, the largest event of its kind, which is expected to draw more than 5,500 to The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C. from Dec. 8-11.
VisualDx is available as an online resource and as a mobile app that works with the iPhone, Android and iPad. It provides immediate access to diagnostic information in critical areas of medicine, including all aspects of dermatology, fevers, rashes, ophthalmology, infectious disease, chemical events, STDs, travel medicine, child abuse recognition and more.
“Developed by physicians, VisualDx relies on nearly 30,000 peer-reviewed images to help ensure the accurate diagnosis of more than 1,300 diseases and conditions,” said Art Papier, MD, CEO of Logical Images, the company that created VisualDx. “VisualDx is a mobile and e-record integrated resource that is scientifically proven to help doctors make more accurate diagnoses, and it helps educate and empower patients by providing images and treatment information in a quick and easy-to-use format.”
Health care professionals enter a patient’s symptoms, medical history and other information into VisualDx. Based on the information entered, VisualDx quickly delivers a highly accurate list of potential diagnoses, a series of photographs against which to match the patient’s current conditions and the recommended treatments. The physician can then work through the list of possibilities to arrive at the correct diagnosis, explain the process to the patient and decide on the right treatment for each patient.
Those attending the mHealth Summit can see VisualDx in a new section of the conference, called “mHealth in the Hospital.”
“Hospital physicians may have only minutes to assess and diagnose their patients – often with incomplete data,” said Noah Craft, MD, PhD, Logical Images chief medical officer. “VisualDx speeds up diagnosis and ensures that patients receive proper care, reducing the length of their hospital stay and the risk for injury in hospital and ambulatory settings.”
