According to the message posted on the website, “Backup Exec.Cloud” service subscription will be discontinued (both new subscriptions and renewals) on January 6, 2014; and the service will be completely retired a year later on January 06, 2015. This grace period will allow “Backup Exec.Cloud” customers to migrate their data to alternate cloud services.
This shutdown has been linked to the lack of mobile and content sharing features of “Backup Exec.Cloud”; and that the current “Backup Exec.Cloud” software design cannot accommodate the addition of new features that are being demanded by their customers, such as: Sync, Share and Mobility. As a result, Symantec decided that it would be better off for everyone if the services were shut down. Symantec’s decision to shut down this service is a part of an on-going re-organization drive.
