ME Construction Wins £1.8m Contract from a Third Major London Landlord

London, United Kingdom, December 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- ME Construction’s growing list of prestigious clients has grown further with the addition of The Portman Estate.

The Portman Estate has engaged the London-based specialist construction company, which specialises in refurbishment and conservation projects, to carry out a high quality refurbishment of an existing property, comprising two fully fitted flats on basement, ground and three upper floors. The value of the contract is some £1.8m.

This project comes hard on the heels of ME Construction winning – and completing - several refurbishment projects for The Howard de Walden Estate, and working on a £2.2m refurbishment project for The Cadogan Estate, another of London’s most prestigious estate management companies.

According to Tony Sones, ME Construction’s project manager on this contract, the work will involve some initial demolition, followed by installing new drainage and a reinforced concrete slab in the basement.

He continued: “And since, after 200 years of use, floors tend to dip so, among other things, we’ll be levelling the building’s floors.

“With the sort of specialist conservation work that this project requires, we’ll be using original materials as much as possible. We’ll also be using traditional building skills – in carrying out timber lath plastering, for example.

“Like all of these specialist conservation jobs that we carry out, this one has some extremely interesting challenges – which are always exciting to overcome,” he said.

Principally located within Marylebone, in central London, The Portman Estate has been a major landlord in this area since the 16th century. The Estate includes Portman Square, Manchester Square along with the residential squares of Bryanston and Montagu, and its properties encompass Oxford Street from Marble Arch to Orchard Street; from Edgware Road in the west to beyond Baker Street in the east, and stretch north almost to Crawford Street.

According to The Portman Estate, the whole team at The Portman Estate is striving to deliver an increasingly responsive, high quality service to all its customers. In the past few years, The Portman Estate has committed substantial investment to the improvement of buildings across the Estate and it believes that it’s important to build and maintain dialogues with residents, community groups and all others who share the Estate’s ambition to make Marylebone one of the most attractive, vibrant and cosmopolitan areas of Central London in which to live and work.

Dennis Barnard, Operations Director of ME Construction, commented: “We’re delighted to have added The Portman Estate to our existing clients, The Howard de Walden Estate and The Cadogan Estate. Our impressive reputation for high quality conservation and refurbishment work, allied to our proven ability to deliver jobs on time, within budget and with the minimum of disruption to all those involved – including local residents – seems to be becoming better known among London’s best estate management companies.”
