Winston-Salem’s Sunshine Beverages Launches New Product to Challenge Energy Drink Category

Sunshine delivers a non-jittery dose of caffeine in a lightly carbonated electrolyte drink with the crisp, refreshing flavors of ginger, blackberry and citrus. It is currently available in the U.S. in 60-calorie, 8.4-ounce units. Sunshine Beverages, LLC is headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC.

Winston-Salem, NC, December 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Winston-Salem-based Sunshine Beverages, LLC has entered the functional beverage category with its launch of Buck O’Hairen’s Legendary Sunshine. Designed to be an alternative to high-sugar, jitter-causing energy drinks, Sunshine aims to attract a more sophisticated group of consumers.

If someone is experiencing tiredness, thirst or even a hangover, Sunshine promises to “clear the clouds” with its balanced formula of caffeine, electrolytes, vitamin B12 and natural Ginger Berry flavor. It contains no artificial colors, no high fructose corn syrup and just 60-calories per can.

Inspired by the Appalachian legend of 19th century moonshiner Buck O’Hairen, who once sold a “morning fixer” called Sunshine from a traveling wagon, Sunshine Beverages, LLC was formed in late 2012 by a group of entrepreneurs in Winston-Salem. They immediately began work on their signature drink and its formulation.

“It was that magic we all crave in the creative business converging right in front of us,” said Joe Parrish, Co-founder of Sunshine Beverages. “We have the extreme energy drink category that’s perfectly ripe for a foil, modern day moonshine producers spreading like wildfire as consumers embrace the mystique and the craft, and this Southern folk tale of Buck O’Hairen right in our backyard. Something special was happening, and we knew it—in just months Buck O’Hairen’s Legendary Sunshine was born.”

The company produced its first run of Sunshine in July and quickly gained traction in convenience stores, bars and restaurants, grocery stores and other retailers throughout the Piedmont Triad region. Distribution deals are in the works as the company looks to grow in the Carolinas and beyond.

“We know there’s a huge opportunity … most energy drinks make people want to jump from the edge of space, but most people simply want to jumpstart the day,” Parrish said. “One of our retail displays for Sunshine says ‘Buck the Bull’—and that says it all.”
