MediPurpose Preparing to Launch New MediPlus(tm) Silicone Wound Dressings in Early 2014
New Comfort Foam Dressings with Silicone Adhesive to Help to Reduce Wound Discomfort for Patients, Reduce Costs for Caregivers
Atlanta, GA, December 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- MediPurpose(tm), a manufacturer and master distributor of medical products, today announced that it will be adding silicone adhesive dressings to its MediPlus(tm) Advanced Wound Care product line in early 2014.
As an expansion to the MediPlus portfolio, the new silicone wound dressings will feature four new border comfort foam dressings with a silicone adhesive that minimizes pain and trauma to the wound. Sizes will range from 3x3 inches, 4x4 inches, 6x6 inches, and 7.2 x 7.2 inches (sacral).
According to MediPurpose Wound Care Marketing Manager Valerie C. Johnson, the new portfolio assortment will address a vast majority of wound sizes. "As with our other wound dressing categories, we will continue to expand our silicone dressings to address the changing needs of our customers," said Johnson.
Reducing Acquisition Costs to Improve Quality of Care
A soft silicone dressing is an advanced wound care dressing coated with soft silicone as an adhesive or contact layer. The intrinsic properties of soft silicone are such that the dressing may be removed without causing trauma to the wound or to the surrounding skin.
Upon their introduction in the 1980s, silicone wound dressings earned acclaim for their ability to improve patient comfort and be less disruptive to the wound healing process, explained Johnson. However, their high cost positioned them as "premium products" that were often too expensive for many wound care budgets-especially for patients being treated in nursing homes and home care, she added.
However, changes in CMS reimbursements based on quality outcomes have shifted perspectives, resulting in greater demand for silicone dressings now considered by many clinicians to be the standard of care for exuding wounds, said Johnson. The new MediPlus silicone addresses growing demand for competitively priced, high-quality silicone dressings.
"We have developed and positioned a silicone dressing that removes the obstacle of price for our customers," said Johnson. "In today's difficult healthcare environment, it's no longer about if providers can increase their budget to acquire top-branded products -- it's about providing products that allow health care providers to treat more patients at reduced cost."
