Gorilla Tango Burlesque Creates Unique Fusion Burlesque Show
Gorilla Tango Burlesque debuts a new form of burlesque - story-based, plot-integrated burlesque based on the classic 1980s video game, The Oregon Trail.
Chicago, IL, December 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Get your wagons ready, someone's dead on the Oregon Trail and it ain't from Dysentery! It's been over 42 years ago since the original Oregon Trail video game debuted in Don Rawitsch's Minnesota 8th grade history class on December 3, 1971. Now Gorilla Tango Burlesque is poised to add to that legacy with its all-female fusion of classic striptease and comedic parody: "The Oregon Tail Burlesque: You Have Died of Sexy". This video game, film noir, murder mystery burlesque will open on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 9pm and perform Fridays at 9pm, through April 11, 2014 at Gorilla Tango Theatre Bucktown (1919 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago IL 60647).
Says Producer Kelly Williams, "We came up with the idea to to a full-length parody of The Oregon Trail video game when we were looking for a new 'geek theme' to cover. We tossed around 'ThunderCats' and 'She-Ra' and then someone joked about shooting bison on The Oregon Trail and we all got excited - I mean, who doesn't remember writing silly epitaphs like 'Here lies BriansMomisHot, dead of measles'?"
She continues, "We based our show off the original game which was designed to teach school children about the realities of 19th century pioneer life on the Oregon Trail. We thought it was ripe for parody because of the over-the-top tragedy (starving of hunger because you can only carry 200 pounds of meat or constantly getting your oxen stolen along the way and dying of frostbite) and the silly stereotypes. We then added in a dash of murder mystery - and of course sexy burlesque ladies - to shake things up."
Directed by Sabrina Harper (Second City, Annoyance Theater, and The Improv Inferno), this show is her first foray into burlesque: "I was so excited to be approached for this project - I mean, c'mon, boobs and pioneers. How silly is that? For our version we've set it to the background of a blend of classic music with a twist of 80 fitness rock. I'm convinced Pioneers would have loved 80 fitness rock," she says with a smile.
