Navesink Challenge 15K and 5K Races to be Held on November 25, 2007
On Sunday, November 25, the Jersey Shore Running Club, the Middletown Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) and Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch will host the 7th annual Navesink Challenge, which starts and finishes at Bodman Park in Middletown, NJ. Proceeds from the event will benefit MYAA and Habitat for Humanity. The Navesink Challenge includes two races, both featuring scenic country roads and several hilly sections. A challenging 15K run begins at 10 AM and a 5K run/walk begins at 10:10 AM.
Shrewsbury, NJ, September 25, 2007 --(PR.com)-- On Sunday, November 25, the Jersey Shore Running Club (JSRC), the Middletown Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) and Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch will host the seventh annual Navesink Challenge, which starts and finishes at Bodman Park in Middletown, New Jersey. Proceeds from the event will benefit MYAA and Habitat for Humanity. MYAA sponsors baseball and soccer programs, as well as other athletic activities in Middletown. Habitat for Humanity is a Christian-based ecumenical, non-profit organization dedicated to building decent, affordable housing. In the past five years, the Navesink Challenge has attracted nearly 2,300 participants and raised more than $24,000 for the beneficiaries.
The Navesink Challenge includes two races, both featuring scenic country roads and several hilly sections. A challenging 15K run begins at 10 AM and a 5K run/walk begins at 10:10 AM. Commemorative mugs will be given to the top 25 men and women in the 15K and the top ten (10) men and women in the 5K. Unique handcrafted wooden plaques will be awarded to the top five (5) men and women in the 15K and the top three (3) men and women in the 5K. In addition, “Middle-of-the-Pack” prizes will be awarded in the featured 15K. The 15K run is also part of the JSRC’s Triple Crown series, a series of three races which features separate prizes to the series winner of each age group (questions to JSRCTripleCrown@aol.com). Random prizes and a grand prize drawing will also be offered, as well as food, beverages and hot soup. The Outback Steakhouse of Middletown is once again hosting a terrific post race party for all participants immediately after the awards ceremony.
Online registration is available at JerseyRunner.com. Participants may also register by mail, or in person on the day of the race beginning at 8:30 AM (note time change from last year). Applications are available at The Running Store in Shrewsbury, Miles Ahead Sports in Manasquan and Runner’s High in Metuchen, and online at www.jsrc.org. Cost of registration is $20 through November 20 and $25 after November 20.

About Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Monmouth County (formerly Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch) is a Christian-based ecumenical, non-profit organization dedicated to building decent, affordable housing. It is unique in that it relies mostly on volunteer labor, includes the homeowners in the actual building of their house, sells the house at cost, and holds the thirty-year, no interest mortgage on the house. To qualify for a Habitat house a family must live in substandard housing (poorly maintained, unsafe, overcrowded, and/or too expensive), have a combined family income between $21,000 and $48,720, and be willing to partner with Habitat.
Since its founding in 1994, Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Monmouth County has built 11 homes in Monmouth County and has recently built 2 in Red Bank, NJ. It has also assisted Habitat for Humanity of Trenton by building and shipping wall panels at a reduced cost. This year it built panels for 3 homes in Mississippi.
