The national Children Missing Education Conference is perfectly timed to examine Ofsted’s new single inspection framework for children’s social care services, and the Department for Education’s revised statutory guidance for local authorities on children missing education.
Ofsted’s recent report, Pupils missing out on education, calls for local authorities to improve joint working with local partners and implement robust systems to monitor the amount of education received by pupils who do not attend school in the usual way. This conference examines the report’s recommendations for local authorities and schools, including:
· Establishing a central record of children not accessing full-time education, including those who are accessing alternative provision full-time away from mainstream school
· Identifying clear lines of accountability and effectively sharing information across local authority boundaries and with other agencies
