Philadelphia's Only Primarily African-American Openly Gay Affirming Pentecostal Church Will be Gathering Other People of Faith Proclaiming the Radically Inclusive Gospel
Miracle Weekend 2007 will be the backdrop for the bringing together of prominent Christian organizations who have an affirming ministry to lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals.
Philadelphia, PA, September 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Greater Hope Fellowship is pleased to announce the upcoming Miracle Weekend 2007 conference where the theme for the celebration will be “We Are Still Standing!” September 28-30 – delegates from The Fellowship Churches (www.RadicallyInclusive.com) a national U.S. trans-denominational fellowship of primarily African-American Christian leaders working for radical inclusivity, the Metropolitan Community Churches (www.MCCchurch.org), the world's largest and oldest Christian denomination with a primary, affirming ministry to lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals, and the United Church of Christ (www.UCC.org) where for more than 30 years has been on a clear course of welcome and inclusion, supporting the civil rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals, and in 1985 adopted the Open and Affirming (ONA) resolution, will gather at Greater Hope Fellowship, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to celebrate the Radical Inclusive and all encompassing love of Jesus Christ.
Radical Inclusivity is the intentional inclusion of all persons; especially people who have traditionally lived at the margins of society, such as people suffering from substance abuse, people living with HIV/AIDS, same-gender loving people, the recently incarcerated, and sex industry workers.
The core mission and vision for this event is to proclaim a gospel that is radically inclusive of all persons. Defining radical inclusivity as "the intentional inclusion of every person in the community of faith." Inclusivity challenges major fundamental, deep-seated Christian beliefs, doctrines and theologies of the center of society which characterize people on the edge as enemies of God and routinely mistreats, oppresses and excludes people from the community of faith and its institutions. It is Greater Hope Fellowship’s purpose and aim to provide a safe place of refuge for persons who have been wounded by oppressive theologies and to provide a place of nurturing and training for those who feel called to this shared ministry.
Greater Hope Fellowship will be honored by the presence and participation of Bishop Wyatt I Greenlee, Episcopal Assistant to the Presiding Bishop of The Fellowship Churches, and Founder and Senior Pastor of Greater New Higher Heights Christian Church, from St. Louis MO, and Reverend Elder Nancy Wilson, Moderator of the Metropolitan Community Churches, from Sarasota, FL. In addition to Bishop Greenlee and Reverend Elder Wilson, Miracle Weekend 2007 also welcomes anointed workshops and preaching by: Reverend R. Stephen Andrews, Potter’s House International Fellowship, from Tampa, FL, and Elder Joseph W. Tolton, Rehoboth Temple Christ Conscious Church, Harlem, NY, and Reverend James L. Mills, Sr., Eastern Regional Administrator for The Fellowship Churches and Founder and Senior Pastor of Greater Hope Fellowship, Philadelphia, PA.
There are great workshops and worship services scheduled throughout the conference. Also free HIV testing will be provided on Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM. For additional information about the conference, any of the speakers or their ministries, please visit the event website at www.MiracleWeekend.net.
