Launching Into the New Year: Focus on Your Health, Safety, & Wellness
Austin, TX, January 09, 2014 --(PR.com)-- On January 17th 2014 from 8:00am to 4:30pm “The Learning Pad” will be partnering with the City of Austin, The Blood and Tissue Center, Capital Area Food bank, and several other community partners too offer free health and computer screenings.
Individuals will be able to get the vital signs, weight, height and BMI calculations. Their dental health checked. Computer / Laptop screened for viruses.
The Blood & Tissue Center Bloodmobile will be here between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm accepting blood donations. Please sign up online: www.inyourhands.org. Click on the ‘Donate Blood Log-In’ tab at the bottom left of the page. Once you’ve completed the Donor Log-In step, you will be directed to your Donor Home Page. Select the ‘Donate Now’ tab at the top of the page. Under the Quick Links Column located on the left, select the Search by Group Code option, enter our specific group code: B526. As seen in the Austin American Statesman, they are in need of type O blood donors.
Reglue Non-Profit will be here to provide free computer diagnosis for your laptop or tower you bring in. Any problem you are facing whether your computer has slowed down, or is broken, they can figure it out for you. Let them take a look at it, free of charge. Also Reglue will accept older computers, refurbish them, and donate them to underprivileged students in the Central Texas Region. Please support their efforts and bring in an extra computer you might have and not using. These kids could use them for homework and learning. These are for kids in K-12.
Capital Area Food Bank - Please assist others by providing a non-perishable food item. If you would rather provide a financial contribution, please log on to the website. The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, a 501c(3) non-profit, is the largest hunger-relief charity in Central Texas providing food and grocery products, nutrition education and social services outreach to 300,000 clients each year through a network of 300 Partner Agencies.
City of Austin – HIV/STD Testing - The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department (HHSD) promotes and protects a healthy community through the use of best practices and community partnerships. They will be providing Free HIV testing for all who are interested between the hours of 8:30am – 3:00pm.
Legend Dental - Will be onsite providing free Dental Screening. Come and check out the health of your teeth and gums!
Elizabeth Hebert/AJJC Bodyworkers – Providing free 5 minute chair massages and explaining the health benefits of massage therapy.
Mikal Abdulla w/ AJJC – Providing free demonstrations and explanation of the health benefits of Jui Jitsu.
Robert Green w/ Life Sustaining Training – Providing cpr demonstrations and explanations of how to get certified!
Lone Star Circle of Care – Their outreach coordinator will be here to help all understand the new healthcare laws and what is best for you! Come and get answers to all your questions and be provided guidance to make wise insurance choices for you and your family.

11am - Ken Starks w/ Reglue: ”How to migrate Friends and Family to Linux”
12 noon – Mikal Abdulla w/ AJJC: “The Health Benefits of Jui Jitsu”
1pm - Kenneth Dublin w/The Learning Pad: "The benefits of using open-source software in business & personal life"
2pm – Elizabeth Hebert w/AJJC Bodyworkers: “Benefits of BodyWork Massage”
3pm – Catherine Jewell/Career Coach: “Bold Career Moves- How to build courage to advance your profession.”
The Learning Pad – Their instructors & students will be performing free vitals. Come get your blood pressure checked!
