Portland, OR, January 10, 2014 --(PR.com)-- American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) graduate Shivana Inalsingh, Graduate Certificate in Nutrition, has been selected as the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) 2014 Famous Alumni. DETC Famous Alumni honorees are selected for their academic record and the level and quality of their contribution to society and their chosen profession(s). The DETC conducts the “Famous Alumni” program annually. Award winners are featured in DETC printed publications as well as on their website (www.detc.org).
“In deepening my personal wellness goals and academic professionalism with the Masters at ACHS, I have expanded the scope of health and wellness support to the community I serve, as well as create opportunities for discussion, research, and integrative collaboration in others areas, such as supporting high performance, safety, and recovery in Contact Sport. My passion for holistic nutrition encouraged me to continue my mission to support holistic health and wellness in my community and beyond,” says Shivana.
Already a Clinical Integrative Reflexologist in Trinidad and Tobago, Shivana started her education at ACHS in the Master of Science in Complementary Alternative Medicine program. She later transferred to the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition as her interest in nutritional choices for recovery and overall good health expanded. She achieved her Graduate Certificate in Nutrition in May 2013, graduating with a 3.83 GPA, while continuing to complete the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition.
Shivana has shown her commitment to holistic nutrition and wellness since starting her studies at ACHS in 2011. She excelled at assessing and integrating research and has an advanced understanding of holistic nutrition and anatomy and physiology.
Among her many accomplishments, Shivana was the recipient of an award of recognition for her work with trauma victims and first responders during and following the events of September 11 in New York City. Shivana has been a guest speaker at several World Boxing Association seminars, presenting her research on the application and effectiveness of craniosacral therapy and foot reflexology in the treatment of head trauma, health issues affecting professional female athletes and most recently, nutrition-aided recovery from brain trauma in boxers in 2012. Supported by her education at ACHS, Shivana is a member of the World Boxing Association Medical Advisory Committee. In her community, Shivana gives clients the tools to make intelligent and informed choices about their food sources for a sustained, healthy community.
