U.S. & Canadian Records Set on Beynon Sports’ Indoor Track
Boston, MA, January 22, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Yet again, multiple records have been broken on a Beynon Sports’ surface – this time at Boston University. On Thursday, January 16th, Galen Rupp shaved nearly 6 seconds off the current 5000 meter U.S. indoor record by posting a time of 13:01.26. Galen took the record-breaking title from fellow American Lopez Lomong, who had previously finished with a time of 13:07.00. After the race, legendary marathoner and Galen Rupp’s coach Alberto Salazar stated “’I think it’s an illegally fast track. If you’re going to go for records, this is the place to go’,” In an interview with Alex Ashlock from Here&Now.com.
The Canadian 5,000 meter record of 13:25:87 set by Jason Bunston over 15 years ago in Stockholm was also broken at Boston University’s Beynon track. Cam Levins crossed the finish line, erasing the previous record by over 6 seconds and finishing 3rd overall behind Nike Oregon Project teammate Rupp and Sam Chelanga.
Boston University hosted the multi-team meet at their 54,500 square foot indoor fieldhouse, home to the BU Terriers. Installed in 2010, the 200-meter Beynon track has a unique banked board curve, and was constructed with Beynon Sports’ revolutionary BSS 2000 surfacing system and is finished with a specialized Hobart encapsulated texture – providing an unparalleled venue for speed.
“You don’t see records broken every day. To witness two (2) impressive milestones being surpassed at one (1) event is simply remarkable,” stated John Beynon, President of Beynon Sports. “We are very proud of our installation at Boston University and I believe the fact that two records were broken is a strong testament to the speed and resiliency of the Beynon track and field surfacing systems.”
