The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Minnesota Chapter Celebrates World Cancer Day with Showing of Feature Film About Boy with Leukemia
Minneapolis, MN, January 27, 2014 --(PR.com)-- In recognition of World Cancer Day, the Minnesota Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will present a screening of the film Ways To Live Forever about a boy diagnosed with leukemia.
The event will take place Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at The Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, 410 Oak Grove St, Minneapolis, MN. There will be a cash bar beginning at 6 p.m., with an introduction by Dr. Steven Rousey, of Minnesota Oncology, 7 p.m. with the film to be begin shortly after. Tickets can be ordered in advance. The award-winning motion picture is based on the best-selling British children’s novel by Sally Nichols about a plucky 12-year-old named Sam who is trying to cope with his leukemia diagnosis. This ultimately uplifting tale centers on Sam’s journey with friend and fellow cancer patient Felix through a series of particularly poignant and sometimes humorous moments as they strive to fulfill their dreams, leave their mark, and make the most of the time that they have.
Following successful premieres in Europe and Asia, the film was released in the U.S. last year by World Wide Motion Pictures Corporation (WWMPC), which has partnered with LLS to raise further awareness of children’s cancers.
“Approximately 90 percent of children under the age of 15 survive acute lymphocytic leukemia thanks in part to advances supported by LLS,” offers Teri Cannon, Executive Director of the Minnesota Chapter. “Unfortunately, 1 in 10 children do not survive and too many of those that do suffer long-term effects from today’s toxic therapies. We will continue to fund research until every child can live a long and healthy life.”
