Food Bank of South Jersey Receives Grant from Bottom Dollar Food Charitable Foundation
Pennsauken, NJ, January 29, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) has received a $3,500.00 grant from the Bottom Dollar Food Charitable Foundation to assist with feeding programs to help food insecure children and families in the South Jersey region.
Pamela Pernot, Director External Relations stated, “This generous grant is especially helpful this time of year after the holiday donations begin to dwindle. It amounts to the equivalent of over 17,000 meals for people hard pressed to choose between heat and food.”
The grant will be presented at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29th at the Bottom Dollar Food store located at 2110 Route 38 in Cherry Hill, N.J.
“Bottom Dollar Food stores are a valued partner of the Food Bank of South Jersey and this grant from the Bottom Dollar Foundation underscores their commitment to the communities they serve,” says Thomas Sims, Chief Development Officer for the food bank.
The Food Bank of South Jersey distributes ten to twelve million pounds of food annually through its network of more than 240 pantries, community kitchens and shelters. FBSJ also runs nine direct service programs, including Kidz Pack, Kids Café, and the Healthy Living Initiative, which not only provide food, but also teach children and adults how to create tasty and nutrient dense meals using ingredients that fit a low income budget.
Within FBSJ’s four-county service area, one in four children do not know when or where they will get their next meal; one in six adults struggle with the difficult choice of paying for food and providing shelter, medicine, or utilities for their families.
The Bottom Dollar Food Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations working to end hunger and food insecurity in the communities it serves.
Bottom Dollar Food, based in Salisbury, N.C., is redefining the discount grocery model by offering private brands and the national brands that matter most to customers, in addition to fresh produce and quality meats, at discount prices and in an energetic shopping environment.
