Lipo-Abdominoplasty Course Selected for New Educational Program at ASAPS Conference
Portsmouth, NH, January 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Brannon’s Claytor’s and Dr. Lawrence Gray’s course, “Scarpa Sparing Abdominoplasty with Concomitant Liposuction; No Drains Needed,” has been selected to be a part of a new education program, the Aesthetic Immersion Modules (AIM), at The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) to be held in San Francisco, California, April 2014. The goal of AIM is to create an ongoing learning environment for the attending board certified plastic surgeons. Participating surgeons will attend the course at the conference and then continue the educational experience throughout the year in webinars and online discussions via RADAR, the Aesthetic Society’s resource library application.
“Scarpa Sparing Abdominoplasty with Concomitant Liposuction; No Drains Needed” is also referred to as “Tummy Tuck Using No Drains.” This new method of performing of abdominoplasty, as it states, uses no drains and eliminates the space for fluid to accumulate. Tummy Tuck Using No Drains first removes fat by liposuction from the abdomen, then removes excess skin, and lastly, tightens the muscle of the abdominal wall and the skin of the abdomen. Muscle is tightened from the breast bone to the pubic bone and extra skin and fat are removed. The remaining skin is sewn together, closing the space and leaving no room for fluid to accumulate. This technique allows for sculpting of the abdominal wall while simultaneously performing the tummy tuck. The lateral flanks of the abdomen can be contoured to shape the patient’s figure to the aesthetic hour-glass silhouette. This surgical technique preserves the body’s ability to remove fluid internally, obviating the need for drains. Dr. Claytor reports that patients are grateful for a surgical technique, which does not need drains.
This procedure has important benefits: It gives surgeons a technique to avoid the use of drains when performing a tummy tuck. Tummy tucks, no drains with liposuction at the same time can improve the contours and shape of the abdomen and overall body proportion. The sculpting of the abdominal wall is very appealing to patients. Patients are up and about in just a few days. Patients are much more comfortable without drains being attached and having to empty them or have the surgeon withdraw fluid. This method also results in less pain after surgery, and provides a quicker recovery, of critical importance to patients.
Other courses featured at the Aesthetic Meeting in April 2014, will be an AIM series in Rhinoplasty, Facelift, Breast Augmentation and Abdominoplasty. Each AIM series will be comprised of 3 courses. Plastic surgeons will be able to take one course or they complete all three courses in the series over 3-5 years and receive a certificate of completion. Each course series will have a Module leader who will be leading the online discussions and webinars in between annual meetings. The launch of the Aesthetic Immersion Modules program is expected to help intensify the learning experience for conference attendees. Dr. Claytor states, “We are pleased to be invited back to the ASAPS meeting again this year to present our work. We take the responsibility to participate in the AIM program very seriously and look forward to teaching other board certified plastic surgeons from around the country and the world our technique. We have studied the surgical technique and analyzed our outcomes with attention to maximizing patient satisfaction in addition to special consideration for patient safety.”
