MEDC Elects New Chairman and Five New Board Members
Richard Tomanek voted in as MEDC Chairman at annual meeting.
Marlborough, MA, January 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has elected Richard Tomanek, General Manager of the Embassy Suites Hotel, as the new Chairman of the MEDC Board of Directors.
During its Annual Meeting, held in Marlborough today, the 25-member MEDC board also elected five new prominent representatives of the local business community to join its ranks.
“I am pleased to continue being a part of this incredible organization that has been doing great things for our city over the past five years,” said Tomanek. “Considering the strong regional, national and international competition, it is vital for the growth of our community to have a robust economic development arm, like the MEDC. As a Marlborough resident and a local business operator, I feel that it is critical that we focus on managing our own city’s revenue stream. As MEDC Chairman, I hope to continue doing that by building on the remarkable progress we’ve made thus far.”
Effective immediately, Tomanek, who previously served as Vice Chairman of the board, will take over the top position from Arthur Bergeron. Bergeron, an attorney at Mirick O’Connell, will step down as MEDC Chairman, but will remain an active member of the board and its Executive Committee.

“Our mission is to create an economically-sound and socially-robust community,” said Cummings, “and the 2013 figures prove that we are on the right path. We have helped fill many of Marlborough's vacant commercial spaces by attracting new innovative companies and supporting the growth of our home-grown businesses. Plus we've made major headways in building youth sports tourism and developing transportation and accessibility. All of this will ultimately solidify Marlborough's image as a business-friendly city that offers an enviable quality of life.”
