Spring Semester Program Helps International Students Succeed in US and Secure Internships, Jobs
The job market is very tough in the United States for both domestic and international students. Gaining a quality internship or job requires international students to differentiate from others.
New York, NY, January 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Institute for Global Student Success (IGSS), an organization dedicated to helping international students succeed academically, socially and professionally in the United States, is now accepting registrations for its spring semester program to be held from February to May 2014.
According to IGSS Founder Alan Kerzner, a former business executive who currently teaches part-time at The Wharton School and New York University, the program will feature a 2-Day Intensive Workshop to be held February 8-9 in New York City; ongoing networking with executives; and monthly webinars conducted by Ivy League School professors, successful professionals and authors.
“Sophomores, juniors and seniors in undergraduate programs and graduate students have come to us asking for help in gaining internships and jobs, so we have formulated the spring semester program,” notes Kerzner. “We have adapted our cornerstone program which is a full-year in length and starts with an Intensive 8-Day Workshop in August to meet this demand.”
IGSS’ program provides each student with a personalized approach to securing an internship or job. Each student works with professionals who have run successful organizations in the US – those who make hiring and firing decisions every day. Together, they determine the student’s distinct attributes and unique contributions to future employers. A resume and LinkedIn profile are created and a plan of whom to network with and how to network is developed.
“The highlight of the 2-Day Intensive Workshop is that enrollees leverage what they have learned by meeting exclusively with executives in one-on-one situations,” Kerzner details. “Because they are enrolled in IGSS, participants have opportunities to meet with executives they otherwise would not have – including CEOs of private equity owned companies, founders of ad agencies, VPs at financial leaders such as Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse – and more. Once students meet these executives and establish relationships with them, they can interact with them throughout the semester.”
Past IGSS participants have significantly grown their global network of contacts and have secured interviews and opportunities with leading organizations in the financial, marketing, hospitality and other industries.
“Many students think the basics will get them an internship or job,” Kerzner concludes. “However, there are too many smart, ambitious students attending great universities all applying for the same internships and jobs. The market is extremely competitive, and despite reports of an improving American economy, supply of internships and jobs for current undergraduate and graduate students remains significantly below demand. And whereas a number of international students who cannot find opportunities in the US would typically go back home to find good positions, this is no longer necessarily the case. In China, over 50% of recent college graduates are taking the civil service exam due to the plethora of private industry opportunities. IGSS helps international students defy these odds.”
