Vedge Restaurant Celebrity Chefs to Appear at U.S. Veg Corp's NYC Vegetarian Food Festival

Philly’s hottest chefs will arrive in the Big Apple for the 4th annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival, March 1-2, in Chelsea.

New York, NY, February 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Philly’s hottest vegan chefs will arrive in the Big Apple for the 4th annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival, March 1-2, in Chelsea.

Richard Landau and Kate Jacoby plan to offer up delectable recipes and stories from their critically acclaimed restaurant Vedge. Opened in 2011, the restaurant presents a menu that is globally inspired while using locally sourced ingredients. No animal products are found anywhere in the kitchen or bar.

The chef/owners have been earning jaw-dropping praise from all quarters. Landau walked away with the Food Network’s Chopped prize after serving the judges an appetizer of chia seeds and dandelion greens, and an entrée composed of tempeh with golden beets. GQ Magazine named Vedge to its list of 12 Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2013 (going up against not just vegan or vegetarian restaurants, but all restaurants in the country).

The pair originally honed their skills at Horizons Café in Philadelphia, founded by Landau with the idea of taking the carnivore palate he grew up with and using it to translate vegetarian cuisine to a broader audience. Jacoby focused on pastry skills and vegan desserts, and also became a certified sommelier. They are married and have one (vegetarian) son.

Landau and Jacoby will speak and prepare dishes on Saturday at 12:15pm on the Natural Gourmet Institute Stage.

Other presenters at the Festival will include cardiologists Dr. Robert Ostfeld and Dr. Joel Kahn, author Steve “Sproutman” Meyerwitz, nutritionist Ashley Koff, and Vegan Radiance blogger Lauren Walls. Approximately 100 vendors will be showing and sampling their wares, including Vega, Nuttin Ordinary, One Lucky Duck, and Rescue Chocolate. There will also be musical entertainment, children’s activities, and a raffle benefiting the New York Coalition for Healthy School Food.

The NYC Vegetarian Food Festival will take place 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues). Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://2014nycvegfoodfest.chirrpy.com/ or at the door. For further information, visit http://nycvegfoodfest.com/.
