Local Renowned Pianist Returns for Dazzling Weekend Performances with the Minnesota Sinfonia
Pianist Loren Fishman joins the Minnesota Sinfonia for a weekend of free performances to celebrate the Minnesota Sinfonia's 25th anniversary season. Performances are Friday, March 14 at Johnson High School in St. Paul at 7 pm and Saturday, March 15 at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis at 2 pm.
Minneapolis, MN, February 06, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Sinfonia continues its 25th year celebrations with a performance by pianist Loren Fishman on Friday, March 14 in St. Paul and Saturday, March 15 in Minneapolis.
Fishman began playing piano at age nine and is now widely praised for his musical sensitivity, conviction and dazzling technique. He has won top awards in several competitions including the Tifereth Israel Young Artist Competition, the KMTA/Bluegrass Young Artist Competition and the Columbus Symphony Concerto Competition. Fishman has also been featured in summer workshops, chamber music festivals and was praised as a performer in the “Musicos de Camara” series for the Instituto Superior Muisicain, Xalapa, Mexico. He received a Doctorate in Performance from the University of Minnesota while studying with pianist Lydia Artymiw and is currently teaching piano at Carlton College.
Performances will take place Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m. at Johnson High School in St. Paul and Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. Admission is free and children are always welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early—all concerts are first-come, first-seated.
The weekend’s program will include Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy, Elegy and Minuet by John Ireland, Piano Concerto in a minor, opus 54 by Robert Schumann and Hansel and Gretel by local composer and Minnesota Sinfonia conductor Jay Fishman.
Jay Fishman has been involved in music from childhood going on to earn his Masters degree in orchestral conducting from the Indiana University School of Music and later studied with Sir Neville Marriner in London, England. Fishman has worked with many orchestras including the Louisville Chamber Orchestra and the Minneapolis Chamber Symphony, in 1989 founded the Minnesota Sinfonia and has watched it grow.
