Higher Education Servicing Corporation Announces Destination Success 2014, Free College Forum
Arlington, TX, February 06, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Higher Education Servicing Corporation (“HESC”), in collaboration with the Arlington Independent School District and with funding provided by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and approximately 20 local businesses, will hold its 2nd annual Destination Success event on Saturday, February 22, 2014, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at Sam Houston High School, 2000 Sam Houston Drive, Arlington, TX 76014.
Destination Success is a community-based event focused on educating and encouraging students and families to pursue college and careers after high school. Presentations, workshops and one-on-one assistance will be provided for the following topics: college preparation, financial aid, college admissions, FAFSA and TASFA application completion, Deferred Action, SAT/ACT test prep, new college readiness (TSI) standards, financial literacy, and income tax assistance. Most presentations will be provided in both Spanish and English in order to meet the needs of the greater community. In addition, complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided to encourage attendance and to allow families to attend who might otherwise be unable to. Colleges and universities will also be present to speak to students and parents about their schools, and local service organizations will be providing information about their youth programs and services.
The purpose of Destination Success is to provide a single source of services to help students and families seeking college and career information or assistance. Mr. Chris Alvarado, Director of Community Affairs at HESC, stated, “Our goal is to break down barriers that prevent students from pursuing college or careers. We strive to develop a college-going culture throughout the Arlington and Southeast Tarrant County area. Our programs and events, like Destination Success, help us promote conversations within families and communities about the importance of college and careers which lead to increased expectations and, ultimately, student success.”
