Iconic Austin Pecan Street Mural to be Unveiled Austin "Renaissance" Artist Replicates Davinci Style for Roppolo's New Davinci Patio Wine/Draught Venue
The official unveiling of the murals is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 15th, from 7-10 PM at the Davinci Patio Restaurant and Bar at 316, E. Sixth Street.
Austin, TX, February 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Austin's historic Sixth Street entertainment district will soon be graced with a new original mural showcasing the history of one of Austin's oldest commercial buildings, at 316 E. Sixth Street. Built in the 1870s, the building has at various times been a hotel, restaurant, ice cream parlor, brothel, boarding house, and since the 90's Roppolo's Pizza.
Marc Roppolo commissioned local "Renaissance artist," Dan Terry, president of Dreamstream Productions, to create the over 50' long mural, and a smaller 3 dimensional interactive one as enhancements to the multistory patio wine and draught bar expansion in the back of Roppolo's Pizza's 316 E. Sixth location. Since 2007, Dreamstream Productions creates multi-media art, installations, and entertainment content for interior designers, tradeshows, theatrical productions and film and television.
The two murals are the first Terry has created in Austin. Two of three prior murals painted by Terry, one in San Marcos, the other in Johnson City, NY have long been destroyed when the restaurants that commissioned them closed. The third was last known to exist behind a protective false wall at San Antonio's Witte Museum.
Terry was selected due to his lifelong interest and art studies of the works of Renaissance artists Davinci and Michelangelo both of whose works are referenced and served as inspiration in the mural's creation. Many hundreds of composites of photos, both historic and original, served as reference for the massive mural done almost entirely in Davinci's anatomically precise, form following, line drawing technique. Done to appear at a distance to be sepia toned antique photographs closer examination reveals it's actually an intricate, multicolored, line drawing comprised of hundreds of thousands of hand drawn strokes.
The 3D architectural mural on the ground floor showcases for the first time in public Terry's "light animated painting" innovation, where Davinci's famous Vetruvius Man appears to change position and gender as programmable LED lights change color.
