PHX Architecture Hosts Art Benefit for O’Connor House
Featuring Artists Beth Ames Swartz, Hunt Slonem, and Wolf Kahn.
Scottsdale, AZ, February 09, 2014 --(PR.com)-- PHX Architecture is hosting a week long Art Benefit and Sale beginning Tuesday, March 18th through Saturday, March 22nd. The event will feature the work of internationally acclaimed artists, Beth Ames Swartz, Hunt Slonem, and Wolf Kahn. A portion of the art purchases will benefit O’Connor House. The art is from the private collection of John Rothschild and Beth Ames Swartz. Swartz will be debuting eight new pieces created specifically for the event. Rothschild collected works from Slonem and Kahn over 30 years, and this will be the first time the works from these internationally recognized artists will be available for purchase.
PHX Architecture is a Patron Circle Member of O’Connor House. Erik Peterson and Nikal Conti, Principals at PHX Architecture are excited for the event, stating “In residential and commercial projects we design spaces that can accommodate art, this time we get to turn our own office into a temporary gallery, creating an opportunity for people to purchase art from this exclusive private collection benefitting O’Connor House.”
About the O’Connor House
The former adobe home of United States Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor is the inspiration for O’Connor House, where Sandra Day O’Connor entertained Arizona’s leaders as well as national and international dignitaries. Using hospitality and civil discourse as a platform, she worked to build consensus and collaborate in solving complex issues. Today, O’Connor House continues Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s lifetime work of solving important social, economic and political problems through civil dialogue and civic action. O’Connor House is an Arizona 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose programs include Civic Engagement & Civics Education, Public Policy, Social Justice and Sandra Day O’Connor Public History. John Rothschild has worked as an art dealer for over thirty-five years serving as President of Rothschild Fine Arts, Inc. in New York and Arizona as well as serving as President of Vanier Galleries in Scottsdale, AZ.
Beth Ames Swartz is a painter and printmaker. Her work can be found in several museums in locations all across the globe. Beth has received multiple prestigious awards, such as the Arizona Governor’s Arts Award and the Veteran Feminists of America, Medal of Honor. Swatrz creates her work in series, “each series concerns itself with a different ethical belief system.” In her unique artwork, Swartz often incorporates words; she “hides” those words beneath the paint, giving the piece a “hidden” meaning. Hunt Slonem is a painter, sculptor, and printmaker. He is best known for paintings of tropical birds, often based on a personal aviary that has included as many as 300 birds of various species. Wolf Kahn is a German painter, pastelist, and printmaker. Kahn’s work can be found in several museums in New York, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and California. He has received several awards, such as the Fullbright Fellowship and an American Academy Award in Art. Kahn, like Slonem, does most of his work in Manhattan.
