GFD Courier Celebrates 35 Year Anniversary

In 1979, Demsak, who was working as an unsatisfied driver for a small delivery company at the time, decided to set out on his own to begin his own delivery services company. Setting up the business’s home base from his apartment in Manhattan, Demsak was the driver while his wife, Fran, worked as the dispatcher. After a year of working in the same place where they lived, Demsak moved into an office on West Street, just steps away from the World Trade Center. It was there that he grew his business, moving into four different offices within the building, each larger than the last, during a time-span of 23 years. He also took over the basement of the building as a warehouse for his growing business.
Unfortunately, the tragic events of September 11, 2001 forced Demsak and GFD Courier from the place they had called home for over two decades. Within three days, however, GFD was back up and running, working from a disaster relocation area as they began to get back to business as usual. Within a month, GFD moved its central operations to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, expanding its warehousing capacity and continuing to service its existing client base with the high level of service clients had come to expect. From there, GFD continued to expand and customize their services, eventually opening an additional location in Manhattan on Fifth Avenue.
