CruiseSafe to Hold First Annual SpringFest & Teen Driver Safety Expo
One year following the tragic death of their sons, four mothers come together to help prevent future teen driving tragedies.
Chester, MD, February 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The First Annual CruiseSafe Spring Festival Promotes Teens Driving Safe
The first annual CruiseSafe Spring Festival will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from noon until 6 pm at the American Legion Post 278, Stevensville, Maryland.
The event will honor the lives of Tyler Elzey, Corey Pessagno, Mike Ringenbach and Harrison Rhoades Smith, who were tragically killed in a car crash on Cox Neck Rd. on Kent Island on April 10, 2013. In addition, the event will be the first driving safety expo held by CruiseSafe.
The festival will feature live entertainment, a variety of food vendors, raffles, contests and prizes.
Attendees can see a “Jaws of Life” demonstration, experience the affects of driving while intoxicated using Fatal Vision goggles, see the results of driving while impaired or distracted using a virtual, interactive simulator, discover the newest technology to prevent distracted driving and visit with several local vendors offering products and services to help keep you and your teen safe while on the road. Parents of teen drivers can also learn more about CruiseSafe’s C.A.T. (Crash Avoidance Training) that will be offered later this Spring at the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Department in Centerville.
Participating organizations include the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Department, the Maryland Department of Highway Safety, Alive at 25 and the Reset Program.
The event will conclude at 6 pm with a balloon release to honor the four young men lost on April 10 and to pledge our community support for driving safety.
Tickets for the event will be available at the door. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and children under 5 will be admitted free of charge.
CruiseSafe was formed by Suzanne Elzey, the mother of Tyler Elzey who was an active member of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department and one of the victims killed on April 10. Ms. Elzey started the CruiseSafe program to ensure that Tyler’s lifelong dream of saving lives could continue even after his death and to prevent other parents from having to experience similar and preventable tragedies.
In addition to Ms. Elzey, CruiseSafe is also actively supported and operated by the parents of Corey Pessagno, Mike Ringenbach and Harrison Rhodes Smith and is committed to preventing fatal and serious teen driving crashes.
