Affinity Biologicals Inc. Expands Their Line of Polyclonal Antibody Based ELISA Kits
The Ontario based company Affinity Biologicals Inc. announces the launch of a new polyclonal antibody based Factor XI antigen ELISA kit.
Ancaster, Canada, February 20, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Affinity Biologicals produces products used worldwide in thrombosis and hemostasis research and diagnostics. Their products include an extensive line of antibodies, conjugates, antibody pairs for immunoassay of human and animal analytes that are produced from goat, sheep, murine and a number of other resources. Affinity also produces a full-line of human plasma products which include immune-depleted and factor-deficient plasmas. However, one aspect which Affinity Biological Inc. has perfected is the production of polyclonal antibody based ELISA kits.
Over the years and through extensive research & development, the company has been able to produce polyclonal antibodies through a variety of hosts and supplies them to a number of pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide.
Affinity Biologicals newest VisuLize™ polyclonal based sandwich ELISA kit is used in the quantification of Factor XI antigen levels in human plasma. The kit complements the existing line of VisuLize™ Factor VIII:Ag, Factor IX:Ag and TAFI antigen polyclonal based ELISA kits from Affinity.
In an interview, a spokesperson from Affinity Biologicals said, “This has taken us extensive research & development and we are proud of our staff which has collaborated and put in a large number of man hours. We have clients worldwide and we send a number of products to pharmaceuticals and laboratories. Our state of the art equipment and well trained staff members enable us to produce polyclonal antibody products which are of the highest quality and assurance.”
Although Affinity Biologicals Inc. uses polyclonal antibodies for their products, there is also opportunity for monoclonal antibodies. Upon this statement, the spokesperson continued to explain, “When comparing the costs and the outcomes, affinity-purified polyclonal antibodies can easily compete with monoclonal antibodies in most applications.. Monoclonal antibody production require highly advanced equipment which needs the staff to be retrained over and over. Added to that, the hybridoma process takes a lot longer as compared to polyclonal antibodies. After the processing is over, the serum obtained contains merely one type of antibody which targets merely one epitope on an antigen.”
He added, “On the other hand, polyclonal antibodies are comparatively easy to produce, provided that they don’t require advanced technology and no specific training is required. The polyclonal process also takes comparatively shorter span of time than monoclonal antibodies. Another huge benefit polyclonal antibodies offer is that one batch consists of a large number of non-specific antibodies which recognize multiple epitopes on a single antigen. Polyclonal antibodies are also more tolerant to minor changes in the antigen like denaturation.”
The polyclonal antibody based ELISA kits from Affinity Biologicals are completely optimized and include all required components to perform the assay. Similar polyclonal antibodies used to produce these ELISA kits are aslo available in a number of formats from Affinity Biologicals.
The spokesperson said, “Most antibodies used in our ELISA kits are available in different formats like ‘Whole IgG’, this includes the base level product and the IgG antibodies are purified from antiserum, using a number of dialysis and precipitation steps. The purity level of IgG is 90% and it is provided in a solution of HEPES buffered saline containing 50% glycerol. Another format is the ‘Affinity-Purified IgG’, Affinity purification is a procedure in which IgG is passed over a resin which has antigen covalently attached to it. In this process, non-reactive bodies are washed away and specific antibodies are eluted under such conditions that disrupt the antibody-antigen interaction. The result is a fine and highly pure product. The last format ‘Enzyme Labeled IgG’, mainly for immunoassay and immunoblotting is either whole IgG or Affinity-purified IgG which has been conjugated with Horseradish Perixodase as a reporter enzyme.”
