Government Contractor The Arcanum Group Makes a Splash with CEO Waters
The Arcanum Group -- a Denver-based provider of IT, staffing and program management services to government agencies -- participated Feb. 22 in the 2014 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Colorado fundraising event.
Denver, CO, February 28, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Is a Polar Plunge for Special Olympics even splashier with three Waters in the pool?
The Arcanum Group CEO and president David Waters, vice president Anne Waters and their daughter intern Kayla led the company’s Polar Plunge team Feb. 22 at Denver’s City Park. The Polar Plunge and the Splash & Dash (a 5K run/walk before the Plunge) are annual fundraisers for Special Olympics Colorado.
David and Anne founded The Arcanum Group – a Denver-based provider of IT, staffing and program management services to government agencies – on the values David, an Air Force veteran, gained from the military: service, integrity, loyalty and excellence.
“As a company, The Arcanum Group wants to have a positive impact on our community through acts of service,” David said. “We’ve had success providing our IT, staffing and program management services to the public sector because we find talented people. But our people are also generous with their time and money. We want to partner with them to make a difference.”
The Arcanum Group Polar Plunge and Splash & Dash teams also included contract specialist Tiffany McFarland, corporate communications manager Kelly Mazezka, friends and family members.
Tiffany said she did the 5K because she loves doing charity walks. “I was sure I could survive the splash part!” she said. “The Plunge is one of those bucket list experiences. It was a wonderful afternoon. I spent time with my best friend and my mom, and I got to take both my nieces on their first 5K!”
David and Anne said they chose to support Special Olympics Colorado because they personally witnessed how important the organization is for people with intellectual disabilities. Their friends’ son Kyle, who has autism, only knew a handful of words when they met him at age 12. Kyle gained confidence through his involvement with Special Olympics (swimming is his favorite sport). After 13 years of involvement, Kyle is now a Special Olympics spokesperson. “Kyle’s life has been radically changed through Special Olympics,” Anne said. “That’s why I chose to jump into frigid water to help the cause.”
Kyle is among the 14,200 Special Olympics Colorado athletes who compete in 100 events and 22 sports throughout the year at no cost to them partly through the funds raised from Polar Plunge events.
Throughout the years, David and Anne have seen and heard story after story about Special Olympics’ impact on the children and adults who compete.
“I love the story of a Special Olympics race in which the race leader was concerned that the other racers would feel bad if they lost. So she waited, and they all crossed the finish line together, hand in hand.” Anne said. “I think we can learn a lot from Special Olympics athletes.”
What’s it like to jump into icy water in February in Denver?
“Man, it was cold! Take-your-breath-away and numb-your-mind kind of cold,” Anne said. “And you know? It was so worth it.”
The Arcanum Group is an official sponsor of the 2014 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Colorado.
“Participating in this fundraising event for Special Olympics Colorado is the start of our community service focus,” David said. “We’re just getting our feet wet, so to speak.”
