Pitivi, a Free Video Editing Application, to Reach a Third of Its Crowdfunding Goal After One Week

The Pitivi free software community launched a crowdfunding campaign to move the software towards the prosumer and professional market and allow everyone on the planet to express themselves through filmmaking, with tools that they can own and improve.

Lyon, France, March 03, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Pitivi is a free and Open Source project, with a long history of contributions. The goal of their campaign[1] is to provide a stable and featureful video editing application to everyone around the planet, by funding full time development to release a 1.0 version.

Pitivi’s strength is its modularity and versatility. It is based on GStreamer, an Open Source multimedia framework with a very long list of plugins and supported codecs, which allows Pitivi to be an “anything in, anything out” application, with respect to the wildly diverse video formats produced and consumed by cameras and media players around the world.

More than 300 persons and organizations around the world have supported their effort already, including GStreamer itself, which just made a 2500 € donation to the campaign to show their faith and support. The Pitivi developers hope that the general public will become aware of their effort, as, to quote Mathieu Duponchelle, one of the developers: "Free and Open Source video editing is something that can help make the world a better place, as it gives people all around the world one more tool to express themselves, fight oppression, create happiness and spread love."
