Ridgefield, CT, October 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Bernie Marcus, co-founder and first CEO of The Home Depot, interviewed on “The CEO Show with Robert Reiss”, talks to 600,000 listeners about “giving back”, returning the rewards he received to others to make a difference in their lives. Bernie talks from the heart on three passions that have occupied much of his recent years: The Home Depot, as its CEO, The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, and “The Marcus Institute”, whose mission is treating children affected by autism.
When talking about his early vision of The Home Depot business and how the business grew, Bernie explains the importance of the customer to the business and to emphasize how essential it is “to have people in the store who care about customers.” Bernie goes to on to say that, “it is more important to have a happy customer than to make a profit” Put in Bernie’s words, the relationship has been “a mutual love affair between us and our customers”.
Later in the show, Bernie Marcus explains how he helped found The Georgia Aquarium and how people from all over the Globe and of all ages have come to have an opportunity to see some of the world’s biggest fish in a unique setting. As its original benefactor, he expresses pleasure at how the Aquarium has had a tremendous effect on the State of Georgia and the City of Atlanta, satisfying his desire to create something new that would have a lasting positive impact on the community.
Bernie really comes to life, however, when he begins to speak about autism and the work of “The Marcus Institute” providing treatment for children that have the disease. He goes on to inform the listeners that autism is unexpectedly prevalent, occurring in nearly 1 out of 150 children born in the U.S., and how it is not only traumatic for the child, but is devastating to the entire family. Most importantly, Bernie advises that early detection in children is extremely important and explains how his vision of raising $100 to $500 million in the next 10 to 15 years will fund research to determine the causes of autism and to learn how to treat the disease. Bernie urges people to find out more about autism by going online to www.AutismSpeaks.org and go to www.MarcusInstitute.org to learn about the Institute’s mission.
As reflected throughout the interview, Bernie has a huge heart. This is captured perfectly when Bernie Marcus says, “I believe in giving – to customers, to employees and to society. And the CEO Show is all about giving. This show gives listeners on target insights to help them contribute to their own organization and to the many communities they serve.” To hear the Bernie Marcus interview commercial free go to www.theceoshowonline.com

While most of the Show’s focus is built around the central issue of excellence in customer service, tips about the game of golf, punctuate the interchange of ideas. This complements the book, “Golf & The Art of Customer Service”, co-authored by Robert Reiss. The book draws analogies about how strategy and tactics in the golf game relate to business performance and ultimately to the bottom line.
