Music is My First Language Holding Fundraiser to Support Music Education Programs for Kids in Need
Social Enterprise Organization filing for Not-For-Profit status in 2014, funding music mission to Ghana.
Brooklyn, NY, March 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Music is My First Language (MiMFL) has announced it will be holding it’s first New York fundraiser on March 22nd 2014. The event will be held at Shapeshifter Lab, an event and performance space in Brooklyn starting at 6:30pm. MiMFL is dedicated to inspire positive social change through sustainable music education and empowerment programs to benefit the social-economic and musically disenfranchised.
Music is My First Language was founded in early 2013 in direct response to ongoing cuts in arts education funding, and lack of access for children who cannot otherwise afford private lessons. The organization has delivered numerous free workshops for children in New York and Dallas, as the beginning stage of creating a sustainable program, that can literally change lives, one note at a time.
The organization’s goal is to raise at least $25,000, which they plan to use to cover costs associated with filing for 501(c)3 Not-For-Profit status in addition to continuing workshop programs. They also are laying down the groundwork for an ambitious Music Boot Camp program that will take children from the US and pair them up with music students in Ghana, in a fast paced week that will break down cultural barriers through music education, composition and performance.
The evening will feature a live performance by Grammy-nominated jazz-fusion ensemble Groove Collective, known for their eclectic mix of R&B, funk, latin and Afrobeat; Jay Rodriguez, one of the band’s founding members is also a lead educator in MiMFL’s program: and Swiss Chris, renowned drummer and MiMFL educator, will also present a performance of Mali percussion. Other acts will include local kids and special surprise guests.
Members of the Press are encouraged to attend and cover the event. For admission and more information about Music is My First Language and its programs, go to www.musicismyfirstlanguage.com/rsvp or call Ray Archie at 212-363-0363, or email info@mimfl.com
