Final Preparations Underway for Star-Studded Butterfly Cary Cup (March 14-16)
Wilson, NC, March 12, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Only a few days remain before close to 200 table tennis players arrive at the Bond Park Community Center in Cary, North Carolina to compete in the 13th Cary Cup Tournament, a Butterfly sponsored, USATT 4-star event. This popular 4-Star tournament has a unique giant round robin format, which has made the event very popular for players all across the United States for over a decade.
The tournament will kick off Friday, March 14th at 10 a.m. with the Classic Hardbat Round Robin and the Friday Open Singles Round Robin. In the afternoon, the Beginner (U1500), Intermediate (1500-1900), and Advanced (1900+) singles events will begin. In all Friday events, players will be seeded into round robin groups of 8, with one advancing from each group to a final round robin group of four to determine 1-4th place. $3600 of prize money will be awarded on Friday to those who capture the top spots in these events.
The main event begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with placement round robins, where 36 groups of 4 players each will compete to determine their division (A, B, C, D) for the rest of the tournament. In all divisions, players will be placed into round robin groups of 8. For divisions B, C and D, the top player will advance from each group to play in a final round robin. For division A, the top 4 players from each group will advance to a championship single elimination round, which will begin on Sunday morning. $3500 will be up for grabs for the new Cary Cup champion, while the finalist will take home $2000 dollars (semi-finalists through 8ths finishers will all receive prize money). Also taking place on Sunday will be the Sandpaper Open event.
Tournament director Michael Babuin and his team are making final preparations this week to welcome all of the competitors from across the US and the world to Cary, North Carolina for a splendid event. With 21 players over 2400, this will be an event to remember.
