2014 Butterfly Cary Cup an International Event
Wilson, NC, March 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- International stars, Olympians, and collegiate champions from all corners of the world will be in attendance at the 2014 Cary Cup in Cary, North Carolina. Players from Canada, Mexico, Iran and Taipei will be on duty in addition to former Chinese super league players.
From Canada, Eugene Wang (2822), Canadian national team member and 2012 London Olympian will hope to take the Cary Cup crown for the 3rd year in a row. In 2012 he won the Cary Cup championship over Hongtao Chen (2632) and in 2013 over Kewei Li (2711). At the 2012 Olympics, Eugene along with team mates Andre Ho and Pierre-Luc Hinse finished 9th in the men’s team event. As the number one seed and defending champion at the 2014 Butterfly Cary Cup, Eugene will be the one to beat this coming weekend.
Another Olympian, Yadira Silva (2414) from Mexico, will be competing in her first Cary Cup, although she is hardly inexperienced. Part of the Mexican delegation for the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games, Yadira has competed internationally since 2002, first for her native Cuba, and later for Mexico after marrying Roberto Madrigal Hernández, who is also her current coach.
A third international Olympian, Feiming Tong (2392) who represented Taipei in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and reached #38 in the world in 2001 will also be competing in her first Cary Cup.
Another international woman, Romina Aemmeh-Doust (2350) from Iran, will also be competing in her first Cary Cup. She is the number one woman collegiate player in Iran.
Challenging these international stars and Olympians will be many former Chinese provincial and national team players including Mingyu Shi (2796), Ruichao Chen (2600), Danjie Zhu (2650). Additionally top US players will also be in the mix such as Feng Yijun (2580), Zheng Jiaqi (2571), and Yanjun Gao (2516). In addition, Jim Butler (2557), a 2 time US Olympian (1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta), who has made a tremendous comeback in the past few years and has just qualified to the US men’s national team last weekend, will also be in attendance.
