Eugene Wang, Mingyu Shi, Kewei Li, and New Comer Ruichao Chen Lead the Standings for Cary Cup
Wilson, NC, March 14, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Four players over 2600 lead the pack of elite level competitors who all want to be crowned the 2014 Cary Cup Champion: Eugene Wang (2822), Mingyu Shi (2796), Kewei Li (2711) and Ruichao Chen (2600). Any one of these players, among the many other elite competitors, could be the next 2014 Cary Cup title holder.
Eugene Wang, 2012 Olympian, and 2012 and 2013 Cary Cup Champion will be looking to defend the crown over an ever vicious pool of competitors. As the #1 ranked player in North America, he will be pushed to the limit by the high level of players entered in this year’s event.
Mingyu Shi is a relative new comer to USA Table Tennis having played his first tournament last November. However, he is the 2014 Aurora Cup champion, and has only lost one match on American soil to Hao Shuai (#16 World Ranking) at the 2013 JOOLA North American Teams tournament. A former Chinese national team member, Mingyu Shi will be looking to win another crown at the Cary Cup.
Kewei Li (2711) will be trying to revenge his loss in the finals of the 2013 Cary Cup to Eugene Wang in this year’s event. Currently residing in Georgia, Kewei Li has enticed crowds at multiple tournaments across the US with his unique modern defender style.
Ruichao Chen (2600) is another new comer to the US table tennis scene, but will be sure to cause a stir this weekend. A lefty player from China who recently began coaching at the Maryland Table Tennis Center (MDTTC), he will be looking to come out on top in his first ever USATT tournament.
With 13 players over 2500, this might be the most competitive Cary Cup championship in history!
*A previous article stated that Danjie Zhu (2650) will be attending the Cary Cup, but she has failed to receive her visa so will not be competing.
