New Technology for Fighting Image Spam from COMDOM Software
Vienna, Austria, October 05, 2007 --(PR.com)-- COMDOM Software researchers have unveiled a new technology for fighting image spam, an increasing problem for ordinary spam filters. Image Part Recognition (IPR) processes complex pictures that spammers use in their advertisements at speeds that cannot be matched by traditional Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technologies.
Virus Bulletin International Conference has long provided the first look at new computer security technologies produced by academic and industry researchers. One of the challenging problems in current antispam filters has been their difficulties in identifying advertising content “enveloped” in different image formats. Traditional OCR has not been adequate for processing the texts and other objects embedded in spam images. Even modern OCR methods have been too slow and easy to bypass in their application to image spam processing.
At the 2007 VB Conference in Vienna, Austria, researchers from COMDOM Software presented a new approach to processing image spam. IPR is designed to process low resolution pictures that go undetected by OCR and do so at speeds required by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other large organizations.
