Appleton, WI, March 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Lisa Klarner, the author of “Releasing the Secret Pain: Moving Beyond Social Anxiety Disorder,” is speaking Tuesday, April 8 at Appleton North School as part of the annual Fox Cities Book Festival.
Klarner will present Understanding the Socially Anxious Mind from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This is one of a variety of presentations Klarner offers as part of Peaceful Horizons, a business she formed in 2012, which is dedicated to raising awareness of social anxiety disorder (SAD). This free presentation on April 8 is part of her continuous outreach to bring light to this often misunderstood disorder.
As regular attendee of the Fox Cities Book Festival for the past few years, when she was writing her book, she left inspired. “As I listened to the other authors sharing their experiences, I set a goal to be one of the authors at the book festival someday. My goal is now coming to fruition,” Klarner said. “It means a lot to be a presenter at the festival. Participating will allow me to reach more people in my quest to raise awareness of SAD. I have a strong desire to educate people on the often misunderstood disorder.”
During her presentation, Klarner will share her own personal experiences with SAD. She hopes that people attending her presentation will be able to recognize the signs of disorder in themselves or others and gain insight into effective treatment options.
Klarner has shared her inspiring message with a variety of audiences such as psychology classes at Lawrence University, youth groups at First Congregational United Church of Christ, and local medical assistant groups.
Previous attendees of Klarner’s presentation say, “It was a very helpful message because it showed that no matter how down or alone you feel you can get help and overcome something like this. I also thought it brought good awareness to the disorder, as well, you don’t hear about it a lot.” and “...Lisa was open, honest and sincere in sharing her personal experiences related to social anxiety disorder...”
Klarner strives to integrate her story with simple explanations of therapy techniques. Her goal is to guide someone with SAD toward the answers they need just as she was guided from a place of uncertainty and fear to a place of clarity when she was diagnosed 15 years ago.
The Fox Cities Book Festival runs from April 7 to April 13 at venues throughout the area. For more information, please visit www.foxcitiesbookfestival.org.
