Benefit for Safe Haven for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender Youth Kicks Off in Southern California
The 1st Annual Black Tie Fundraiser Dinner for Joshua Home: an LGBTQ Safe Haven will be held on March 29, 2014. This event brings attention to the silent epidemic of homelessness among LGBTQ youth in America.
Redlands, CA, March 17, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Author, Annette Patterson has Founded the only permanent gender inclusive Housing Solution Serving Homeless LGBTQ Youth in the Inland Empire of Southern California.
The 1st Annual Black Tie Fundraiser Dinner for Joshua Home: An LGBTQ Safe Haven will be held on March 29, 2014. This event brings attention to the silent epidemic of homelessness among LGBTQ youth. What happens during childhood and adolescence shapes who young people become as adults. For some, embracing their sexual orientation or gender identity that is different than the “norm” can happen easily, without much agitation or stress. For most, however, the process of figuring out who they are in terms of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression is not easy, and is usually a source of intense struggle and conflict that can take many years to overcome. These teens are oftentimes shunned by schoolmates, from dysfunctional home environments, have been abused in some way and more.
The gala will be held on the grounds of Redlands University in the Casa Loma Room. Hosted by Rangi Ya Giza (RYG); a non-Greek brotherhood at the University of Redlands committed to community service, diversity, and brotherhood, the event promises to be impassioned and informative.
Although there has been an outpouring of support, the organization needs ongoing funds and in-kind donations to provide for Joshua Home’s needs. Following are some of the needs: Two twelve-passenger vans; Five bedroom, two bath Single family home; Clothing and personal items, Complete furnishings for the home; Game systems; Computer center for six; Administrative office furnishings and supplies. JH Safe Haven is enlisting the support of the community to help us to bring awareness to the prevalence of the issues of which these young people are being challenged.
Dr. Heath Adam Ackley, former head of the Theology department at Azusa Pacific University, and others, will address the guests during the dinner, guests will be treated to a cuisine prepared by Bon Appetite, and a live jazz band. Annette promises a powerful evening to be remembered.

JH Safe Haven was created for at-risk LGBTQ Youth who are homeless on the streets, staying with friends, in mainstream shelters or in foster or group homes that are ill-equipped or unwilling to address and accommodate their needs. Of the many youth shelters in Southern California few if any are trained, experienced or sympathetic enough to address the specific challenges LGBTQ Youth face when homeless, helpless and alone.
Pioneered in 2013 by Founder and Executive Director, Annette Patterson, Joshua Home's goal is to make sure every homeless Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning young person ages 12 through 20, in the counties of San Bernardino and Riverside has a place to call home.
