Arizona Outback Adventures Launches Guided Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) Tours
Scottsdale-based adventure tour company expands its operations on Arizona’s Salt River with unique guided Stand Up Paddle Board tours.
Scottsdale, AZ, March 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Southwest’s premier adventure tour operator and bike rental facility is expanding its half-day tour offerings on Arizona’s Lower Salt River with the launch of guided Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) tours.
Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA) is building on their existing repertoire of guided river trips which includes guided kayaking and rafting tours. AOA’s Stand Up Paddle Board tours are available at both the beginner and advanced levels. Each tour is fully guided and all-inclusive providing snacks and bottled water, wildlife interpretation, and transportation from either AOA’s tour facility in Scottsdale or from local resorts.
Jon Colby, director of single-day tour operations at Arizona Outback Adventures, says of the decision to begin offering guided SUP tours, “Stand up paddle boarding incorporates a healthful core-strengthening workout with an amazing setting. In addition to being great exercise, stand up paddle boarding offers tour participants a unique perspective on river touring from the vantage of 'walking on water.'”
All SUP tours will take place on the Lower Salt River, a short drive outside the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Lower Salt River has been dammed to regulate the flow of water and provide power for the city of Phoenix, creating a multitude of recreation sites perfect for calm water activities such as Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding is an increasingly popular sport due to its accessibility by individuals of nearly every fitness level. SUPs are similar in size and shape to a surf board and are made from foam, fiberglass, or are inflatable. The craft is piloted by standing upright and propelling oneself along with a paddle similar to those used in canoeing.
On beginner level tours, AOA guides will provide instruction in basic techniques including kneeling and standing, balancing and turning, and navigating on gentle water. Participants with prior experience in basic SUP skills may be ready for an advanced level tour where guides will lead you downriver through moderate currents. Every tour emphasizes expert guidance and engaging educational interpretation of the surrounding environment. Stand Up Paddle Boarding provides an excellent means of wildlife viewing and a close-up experience of the diverse flora and fauna that thrive in the Salt River’s riparian ecosystem.
