NYJA is Offering Vocal Jazz Workshops Now
Jackson Heights, NY, March 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- New York Jazz Academy (NYJA) is providing workshops for aspiring vocalists of all skill levels and ages. Workshops are designed to help students learn stage presence, song interpretation, lyric memorization, musicianship skills, improvisation and the other important elements of jazz. Class sizes typically vary between four to six singers and are tailored to fit specific skill levels.
NYJA’s workshops teach beginners to advanced singers how to successfully perform and further their vocal skills. Workshops include professional accompanists and full-rhythm sections. Intimate class sizes allow vocalists to collaborate in small groups with others of their skill level. Vocal jazz workshops are particularly helpful for singers preparing for a performance or singers who have a desire to be on stage. At the end of each workshop, singers are invited to showcase their talents at a final performance.
NYJA vocal workshops include the study of vocalnomics, which teaches how to use the voice properly. It also gives students an understanding of diction and lyrics. Students learn how to sing easily in all tempos and time signatures, how to prepare for performances and how to vocalize many different styles of music. Participants are also given the opportunity to develop their own styles of singing. Jazz music is heavily based on improvisation and individual styles.
The academy also offers a Latin American Vocal Workshop option, which gives aspiring vocalists the opportunity to focus on the music of Brazil, Cuba, Argentina and Peru. Students expand their voice’s repertoire by learning how to sing in Spanish and Portuguese. No prior Spanish or Portuguese experience is necessary, as the learning model is designed for English-speaking students who want to learn Latin jazz. Participants work through individual song interpretation, collaborative singing, rhythm exercises, sound exploration and improvisation. The Latin American Vocal Workshop meets once per week for one hour and a half each session, and is open to singers of all skill levels.
