High-Performance Polyurea and Polyurethane Coatings from Bayer MaterialScience Deliver Fast Return to Service, Excellent Aesthetics, Durability
Houston, TX, March 26, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Building and construction professionals are looking for suitable materials that meet requirements for low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and offer high-performance properties.
Bayer MaterialScience LLC has developed solutions for polyurethane and polyurea coatings based on its raw materials that are known for their high-performance parameters, including for architectural and corrosion applications. Trained contractors using appropriate engineering controls and proper personal protective equipment are safely applying these coatings in a broad variety of site applications to obtain advantages such as faster return to service, enhanced aesthetics and long-term protection.
Bayer experts discussed recent coating advancements as well as the safe use and application of polyurethane coatings during the PDA Annual Conference in Houston, held March 24-26.
Phil Jones, director of application development, Infrastructure and Building Materials - NAFTA, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, presented, "Polyaspartic decorative garage floor coating case study" at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, March 25. He discussed the application of a two-part polyaspartic, an aliphatic polyurea, coating on an approximately 700-square-foot residential garage, including surface preparation and application and a review of the surface today – three-and-a-half years later – to determine how it has held up to UV exposure, road salt, motor oil, antifreeze and vehicle traffic.
Tim Feeley, manager, Industrial Hygiene Customer Services, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, discussed the safe use of polyurethane coatings applied in the field on commercial and industrial infrastructure; shared results of measurements performed during polyurethane coatings applications; and provided recommendations for worker safety. His presentation, “OSHA NEP isocyanate overview and safe application,” took place at 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, March 25.
As a global leader in the development and manufacture of advanced materials for industry, Bayer demonstrates leadership through advancement of health, safety and environmental awareness initiatives, and through development and adoption of best practices for the transportation, storage, handling and disposal of these materials. Its product stewardship efforts are demonstrated in a website called Product Safety First, where numerous safe use and handling documents can be found. Please visit www.productsafetyfirst.bayer.com.
