Cottonwood Heights Family Earns Black Belts
A local family in Cottonwood Heights, Utah all earned their black belts together this last December.
Sandy, UT, March 26, 2014 --(PR.com)-- For 48-year-old Michael Albrecht of Cottonwood Heights and his two young sons, they’re not just surviving; they’re thriving. Albrecht, eight-year-old Gabriel and nine-year-old Michael-Angelo received Taekwondo 1st Dan Black Belts in early December – two and a half years after the trio began in the sport at Personal Mastery Martial Arts in Sandy, UT.
“Having a complete family start and finish together with a black belt is something that is extremely rare and very unlikely,” Albrecht said. “Needless to say, I am very proud of my boys.”
Albrecht said he and his boys found Personal Mastery Martial Arts Studio down the street from their home and decided to begin their venture together. Practicing Taekwondo multiple times a week and achieving promotions every two months brought Albrecht and his sons together on equal footing, as they learned a skill together and many life lessons as a result.
“Taekwondo has helped me structure our lives, and give my boys focus and self-control, even in the worst moments,” Albrecht said. “I am mighty proud of their accomplishments, their perseverance and the character they have shown throughout.”
Gabriel and Michael-Angelo, both Butler Elementary students, have helped their dad learn the Korean words associated with Taekwondo, and they work together to perfect their techniques in and out of the dojo.
In addition to Taekwondo, the Albrecht boys take weekly piano and drum lessons. They also enjoy skiing and golfing, among other activities, helping them have a “good and fulfilled life,” according to their father.
Albrecht, who is a German immigrant, credits Taekwondo with helping him raise his boys. “I have lived my life, I have done many things others don’t get to do,” he said. “I cannot imagine anything more fulfilling than focusing completely on my family and grooming a new generation.”
Now father and sons are preparing for the 2nd degree black belt test in 2 years, and all are planning to compete at the 6th Annual U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang in Colorado Springs June 20-21.
