Brooklyn, NY Based Ditmas Park Rehab and Care Center Hosts Community Blood Drive Benefiting Maimonides Medical Center

Brooklyn, NY, March 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- With the hot summer months approaching, the need for community blood donation only increases. In light of this fact, Ditmas Park Rehab and Care Center has teamed up with the Flatbush Development Corporation to host a community blood drive on Thursday, April 3rd, 2014, between the hours of 12:30 PM and 8 PM. The event, which will be benefiting Maimonides Medical Center, will be held at Ditmas’ facility, located at 2107 Ditmas Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11226.

Residents, local businesses, schools, athletic leagues and other civic organizations are asked to help by donating blood. It is a little known fact that people can donate a pint of blood every 56 days. Ditmas Park will be sponsoring hot meals at the event as well as supplying donors with goody bags. Please be advised that photo identification is required at donation time.

Blood donation requirements include a minimum weight of 115 pounds and minimum age of 18, yet there is no upper age limit for donating blood. Interestingly enough, many health conditions and medications do not prevent someone from donating blood. People taking insulin, blood pressure, thyroid and cholesterol medications, aspirin, antidepressants, and hormone replacements can give blood. Tattoos are also okay as long as they are healed and have been done in a reputable tattoo facility.
