CFO as Strategist: Brian Friedman Honored at CFO Studio Reception
Somerset, NJ, March 29, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Brian Friedman, CFO of the New York Jets, featured in the Q1 2014 cover story of CFO Studio magazine, was honored at a reception on March 27 at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, NJ. The Jets organization and CFO Studio event, attracted a strong turnout of New Jersey-area CFOs and top executives.
Friedman, who has responsibility for all financial and accounting operations for the team, the team’s financial interest in MetLife Stadium, and all internal and external reporting to the NFL and other agencies, spoke to the assembled group about how the CFO’s job has changed. PowerPoint graphics demonstrated his point: that Strategy used to consume the smallest part of the CFO’s job (the top of a triangle), while Accounting and numbers-related tasks consumed the largest part (the base). Today’s CFO has to flip that. Strategy is paramount, and CFOs for mid-sized companies need top strategic skills.
Friedman went on to describe what a CFO for a sports team strategizes about: the fan experience. For Friedman, his means thinking through and spending money on what will bring Jets fans to the stadium. “It includes revamping the game-day presentation, from the player introductions to the post-game interview; it includes investing in the staffing and the infrastructure, and security, and technology to make sure people can sit in their seat and have all the comforts of home.” Fans at home are also on his radar, as is the way tickets are purchased and how fans can relate to the team digitally.
The event also featured a raffle, with the top prize being four tickets to the Jets’ opening-day game of the 2014 season.
The event was coordinated by the Jets organization and Real Estate Strategies Corporation, which funds CFO Studio and CFO Studio magazine; event sponsors were JPMorgan Chase, Deloitte, and Robert Half International.
