Cortiva Institute Students Perform Marathon Chair Massages at Red Bank, New Jersey YMCA for Member Appreciation Day
The Massage Fest Kicks Off a Burgeoning Alliance Between the Cortiva Institute and the YMCA
Red Bank, NJ, October 06, 2007 --(PR.com)-- On September 13, 2007 the Cortiva Institute sponsored a Member Appreciation Day at The Community YMCA Family Health & Fitness Center in Red Bank, N.J. To the delight of staff and members, students from Cortiva’s Wall Township and Piscataway campuses offered 15-minute chair massages throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To gain valuable, first-hand knowledge, students work with the public in externships by volunteering at the YMCA, hospitals, eldercare facilities and group athletic activities in addition to their required internships at Cortiva’s student clinic.
The students received rave reviews for their professionalism. Gary Laermer, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Community YMCA noted, “The excellent talents of Cortiva’s students brought a great sense of balance and relaxation to our members. Without exception, each Cortiva student helped our members and staff achieved a greater sense of calm; they were professional, considerate and very knowledgeable of massage technique.”
The students “loved opening up people who usually consider bodywork a luxury,” said Bridget Quinn, Cortiva Institute’s Corporate Director of Admissions. “And since everyone is fully clothed for chair massages, it’s non invasive and students found that people who normally wouldn’t consider getting one were more receptive.”
According to Ms. Quinn, this outreach is the first of many associations with the YMCA over the coming months. “We’re still working out the details,” she says, for a multitude of activities Cortiva might sponsor, possibly on a monthly basis. Mr. Laermer adds, “This initiative is an excellent opportunity for two great organizations to work together, particularly as YMCAs further position themselves with a more holistic approach to wellness.”
