Leadership is Demonstrated by Long-term Commitment to Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve
Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution in Greene County Signs “5-Star” Statement of Support for Our Troops
Harrisburg, PA, January 14, 2006 --(PR.com)-- “I truly appreciate the 5 Star award. It means a tremendous amount to everyone here,” emphasized State Correctional Institution (SCI) Superintendent, Mr. Lou Folino, “Support for our National Guard and Reserve personnel is critical.”
On behalf of the SCI-Greene team, Mr. Folino signed a “5-Star Statement of Support” with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve in a ceremony at the SCI-Greene facility immediately following a comprehensive training session for State Correctional Officers and Administrative Staff. Approximately 40 management people were provided with necessary information regarding USERRA, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, which protects Guard and Reservists employment status while serving our country, and ESGR's role in gaining Employer support of our Guard and Reserve members.
“We will continue efforts to hire them, if they meet qualification guidelines, because I find that current Military Reserve and National Guard members usually turn out to be outstanding employees,” added Mr. Folino.
Mr. Fred Fair, Northwest Pennsylvania Area Chairman of ESGR conducted the “5 Star Statement of Support” and keynoted the staff training. Spearheading the event and contributing to the training session was Mr. Phil Bokoch, Southwest Pennsylvania Area Ombudsmen.
“Phil has been instrumental in recognizing SCI-Greene, Mr. Folino and his staff there as a tremendous employer of National Guard and Reservists,” said Mr. Steve Patarcity, Southwest Pennsylvania Area Chairman, “Phil’s efforts have not only provided the means in upgrading SCI-Greene’s employer recognition status with ESGR, but to support them when they need assistance.”
SCI-Greene, Mr. Folino, and his Correctional Officers and staff have been previously recognized with the ESGR “Seven Seals Award”, and the “Patriot Award”. The “Seven Seals Award”, representing the Seals of the seven components of the U.S. Military Reserves, is the second highest award that can be bestowed upon an employer within each state. The “Patriot Award” is special and unique in that the employer nomination must be initiated by a serving member of the National Guard and Reserve forces.
The “5-Star” Statement of Support program is an ongoing ESGR sponsored program that recognizes companies who show their support to their National Guard and Reserve employees.
