Paige Holland Hamp Named to Board of Directors of Embrace Uganda
Raleigh, NC, October 05, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Robert Littlejohn, head of school at Trinity Academy of Raleigh, a K-12 college preparatory school community located in North Raleigh, has announced that Paige Holland Hamp, director of marketing and development for Trinity, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Embrace Uganda. Embrace Uganda is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to encourage and empower a generation of Ugandan orphans, one village at a time by facilitating and fostering personal relationships between Ugandan and American children. The organization creates avenues for individuals, groups and corporations to begin changing Uganda by creating a model village, supporting existing health care and education initiatives, and providing practical and financial help.
Uganda, which is located in East Africa, has been devastated by the AIDS pandemic like much of the African continent, resulting in the loss of a generation of adults and producing an estimated 1.7 million orphans and street children. The country has suffered civil war and unrest as well as economic demise after years of misguided political leadership. The impoverished country, where the annual per capita income is $320, lacks infrastructure — many rural areas lack electricity or running water. Orphaned children do not have the opportunity for secondary education, and there is a lack of high-paying jobs for those with education.
Embrace Uganda works in support of other nonprofit organizations with the mission of relieving hunger, disease and extreme poverty in Uganda. These organizations include Global Support Mission, Amazing Grace Adoptions and Bringing Hope to the family, among others.
Hamp, who is the former event director for The North Carolina Education Ball, a fundraising event for Communities in Schools of North Carolina, has also served as director of the North Carolina Education Alliance, the K-12 reform project of the John Locke Foundation and as a consultant.
“We are proud to announce that Paige has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Embrace Uganda,” said Dr. Littlejohn. “Her personal experience in this ongoing effort will allow her to make impacting contributions to this board and organization.”
