Better Stem Cell Culture
Extracel-HP makes stem cell culture more realistic
Salt Lake City, UT, October 07, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Glycosan BioSystems, Inc formally launches Extracel-HP hydrogels. Extracel-HP hydrogels are an easy-to-use, hyaluronan-based, synthetic extracellular matrix containing catalytic amounts of heparin crosslinked into it. Extracel-HP provides better experimental design for stem cell culture because it mimics a cell’s environment better than plastic. The heparin permits slow, continuous release of growth factors incorporated in the hydrogel. Hence, stem cells are no longer exposed to extreme changes in growth factor concentration during frequent media changes. In addition, Extracel-HP’s stiffness can be changed to suit a researcher’s particular stem cell application.
Tom Zarembinksi, Glycosan’s Director of Business Development, noted, “Scientists are trying to create environments for their cells that are more similar to a cell’s natural environment. Glycosan is providing the product that allows them to do this.”
