High-Solids Polyurethane Dispersions from Bayer MaterialScience Offer Comfortable Feel, Improved Efficiency for Textile Coatings
Atlanta, GA, April 09, 2014 --(PR.com)-- For many years, polyurethane coatings have been applied to various fabrics to enhance their functionality, such as chemical and stain resistance, durability, and wind and waterproofness. Increasingly, textile companies are requesting resins with non-solvent formulations that offer high-performance properties and high solids content to replace traditional solvent-based systems.
Recently developed polyurethane dispersions from Bayer MaterialScience LLC feature ultra-low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and a solids content of 60 percent compared with the 35 – 40 percent solids of currently available products.
William Corso, technical manager, Textile and Specialty Laboratory, Coatings, Adhesives & Specialties, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, presented “High-solids polyurethane dispersions: environmentally compatible resins for textile coatings” at 4:30 p.m., April 8, during the American Coatings Show and Conference in Atlanta. Corso highlighted the recent advancements in polyurethane dispersions that make them an ideal fit for textile manufacturers as well as formulators of non-textile applications.
“With the introduction of these high-solids polyurethane dispersions (PUDs), coaters can obtain desired properties needed for a wide range of applications with high-performance properties such as flexibility, mechanical strength, and hydrolysis, abrasion, chemical and stain resistance,” Corso said.
Applications for these high-solids PUDs include foams used to form synthetic leather as well as coatings for screenprinting that offer high stretchability without cracking and excellent wash resistance.
Attendees of the American Coatings Show and Conference in Atlanta were able to visit Bayer’s booth #2305 to learn more about its coating raw materials and technologies.
