Columbia, IL, April 12, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The national organization Operation Kidsafe will host a free child safety event at George Weber Chevrolet Columbia, 701 Old State Rt. 3, Columbia, IL 62236 (618) 281-5111; www.georgeweberchevy.com; giving parents the chance to obtain safety kits that include their children's fingerprints and photographs.
The event is to take place on Saturday, April 12th, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., according to Operation Kidsafe.
The safety kit is designed to help parents and law enforcement locate kids should they go missing.
Kidsafe captures a child's picture and fingerprints using a digital video-capture device, digital ink-less fingerprint capture device and specialized software.
The data is assembled, and a printout is given to the parent, who can give it to law enforcement to aid in an investigation.
No database or records of children are maintained, and the only record of the child's visit to the event is given to the parent for safekeeping, according to the release.
Attendees can also get other safety tips and learn about setting up a family safety action plan.
Nearly 2,200 children go missing each day in the United States, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
