Parker Poe's Melanie Dubis to be Honored as a Champion for Children
NC Foundation for Public School Children Recognizes Dubis for Unwavering Advocacy.
Raleigh, NC, April 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- For nearly two decades there has been a significant constant in attorney Melanie Dubis' professional life: her crusade to ensure equality in public education. On April 24th, the NC Foundation for Public School Children (NCFPSC) will be paying tribute to Dubis, a partner with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, for her years of hard work, fighting on behalf of the state's most impoverished children.
Dubis' passion for the cause was ignited in 1994 when the then-law clerk was assigned to Leandro v. State of North Carolina, a case brought by a group of parents challenging the disparity in funding between schools in affluent areas as compared to those in low-income districts. Dubis, a native of Kernersville, NC, worked tirelessly on the Leandro case, securing a favorable ruling in 2004 and moving on to litigate related cases as she climbed the ranks at Parker Poe.
