PHX Architecture to Host Food Drive for St. Mary's Food Bank
PHX Architecture will be hosting a Food Drive for St. Mary’s Food Bank in May.
Scottsdale, AZ, April 24, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Starting May 1st PHX Architecture will be hosting a canned food drive for St. Mary’s Food Bank. The office will be a donation spot through the month of May. PHX Architecture is located at 7507 E. McDonald Dr. Suite B, Scottsdale, AZ 85250. Stop by anytime Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.
In Arizona alone there are over 1 million men, women, and children that go hungry each day. That is nothing in comparison to the nearly 900 million across the globe. However, We Can ‘May-ke’ a difference. By joining together, with St. Mary’s Food Bank, we can help to lessen the impact of poverty in the community. Remember, every little bit counts. Maybe you don’t have any canned food sitting around the house, maybe you just have a spare dollar or two that you could share… for every $1 you give, seven meals can be given to those in need.
St. Mary’s became the world’s first food bank back in 1967, since then it has encouraged the development of several other food banks across the country. One of the largest food banks in the world, St. Mary’s has several outreach programs including the Community Kitchen, Mobile Pantry, Hunger Heroes, Kids Cafe, and more. Their Kid’s Cafe program alone serves over 5,000 meals to hungry children each day.

About St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance
St. Mary’s Food Bank is the world’s first food bank. It was founded back in 1967 by John van Hengel. The idea came to him when he was volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul, serving dinner to those in need. When a mother stated that soup kitchens and grocery store dumpsters were the only way she could feed her children, the concept of a food bank was born, wherein individuals and companies with excess money and food could “deposit” it, and those in need could “withdraw” it. Van Hengel approached his local parish, St. Mary’s Basilica, with his vision and was given $3,000 and an abandoned building. Van Hengel’s idea became a reality, and in gratitude, he named his organization “St. Mary’s.” Inspired by his accomplishments, cities nationwide began opening food banks to feed those in need. Soon, other countries were following his lead. Today, St. Mary’s Food Bank is one of the largest food banks in the United States, and proud of the impact it has had on Arizona—and the world.
